Celebrating the holiday season around family and friends generally means there will be lots of food around. Sometimes we feel the need to share our celebrations with our dogs. If you feel the urge to pass some of the holiday food to your dogs, there are plenty of healthy choices to share with them! Below are some safe and tasty options:

  • Plain sweet potatoes
  • Plain boiled or baked potatoes
  • Apples (apple seeds can be toxic to core the apple first)
  • Turkey meat (no bones, no skin)
  • Plain green beans
  • Plain peas
  • Pumpkin is a healthy snack, but make sure if you are using canned pumpkin that it is not the pre-spiced pie mix

On the other hand, some table foods are not recommended. Some unsafe or unhealthy ingredients that may be on your holiday table may include:

  • Turkey bones, skin, and gravy
  • Stuffing
  • Casseroles
  • Mashed potatoes
  • Creamed peas
  • Chocolate, cookies, pies, and sweets (especially anything containing xylitol)
  • Alcoholic beverages
  • Raisins and grapes
  • Onions, scallions, and garlic
  • Ham
  • Foods containing spices
